Amalfi Coast Tours from Rome

Amalfi coast tours by Transfersrome

The Amalfi coast tours from Rome generally start from Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport. Here a Transfers Rome driver, at your complete disposal, will be waiting to take you on a tour of the wonderful and poetic Amalfi Coast, the world-renowned tourist destination.

The Amalfi Coast is also known as the Coast of Amalfi or the Divine Coast, because of it almost divine beauty in its natural marine context. This Campanian area is also famous for its heterogeneity: each of the towns that are part of it have their own features and traditions. The Amalfi Coast territory includes the municipalities of: Vietri Sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Tramonti, Minori, Ravello, Scala, Atrani, Amalfi, Conca dei Marini, Furore, Praiano e Positano. The Coast is named after the town of Amalfi, because it represents the central heart of the area not only geographically, but also historically.

During the Amalfi coast tours from Rome  you’ll travel along the highway Salerno Reggio Calabria. There will be two stops for a coffee break at service stations.

Going through Vietri sul Mare, renowned for its artistic ceramics, you’ll arrive in Amalfi, one of the most important tourist centers of the Campanian coast, well-known and appreciated in the whole world for its artistic and naturalistic beauties, clear sea and refined accommodations.

The most famous Amalfitan monument is surely the Duomo in Arab-Sicilian style and today dedicated to Saint Andrew, patron saint of the town. Amalfi Cathedral is made of two basilicas: the Basilica of the Crucifix, dating back to the 6th century, and the Basilica Maggiore dedicated to S. Andrew, from the 9th century. On the left of the Duomo’s façade rises the beautiful bell tower, built between the 12th and 13th century, with mullions decorated with yellow and grey tuff surmounted by interlaced arches, supported by columns with star and floral motifs that remind of the Arab style. From the atrium you access to the enchanting Cloister of Paradise, built by the bishop Filippo Augustariccio between 1266 and 1268 to be used as burial for Amalfi’s notable families.

The breathtaking sceneries, history, art and gastronomy of the places visited during the tour will certainly amaze you.

In the Valley of the Mills, in the internal part of the town of Amalfi, you’ll be able to visit the Museum of Paper, an ancient paper mill transformed into a museum in 1969 by Nicola Milani. The museum, one of the most original and fascinating of the Coast, accommodates the machinery and equipment once used for the production of handmade paper: pile hammers, the Dutch machine, the continuous plan machine, machinery that has been properly restored and brought again to a working condition.

From Amalfi the tour will continue toward the town of Ravello, the panoramic terrace of the Amalfi Coast from which one can enjoy a scenery of natural beauty unique in the world. The terraces of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, where it’s possible to admire a wonderful view, fascinated even the actress Greta Garbo and the great composer Wagner, in whose honor every year takes place the International Festival of Music, that has made Ravello the city of music in the Amalfi Coast. The garden of Villa Rufolo, also known as the “Soul Garden”, is developed on two stories. The ancient walls hidden just by cypresses and limes, discreetly take to a Moorish cloister.

Why Choose Amalfi Coast Tours from Rome

Quality and safety at your service

The private car Amalfi coast tours of our company include personalized itineraries that satisfy the interests and needs of our clients.

Villa Cimbrone was a large land ownership of the noble family Acconciagioco, on which stood a vast rustic farmhouse built on a rocky promontory overlooking the Amalfi Coast. In 1904 the English lord William Beckett became the owner and in collaboration with the Ravellian Nicola Mansi managed to create a building of incredible beauty mixing different styles and periods, antique finds and ethnic elements, memories of exotic journeys. The luxuriant garden of the villa, in which there are statues, little temples, fountains, natural grottos and finely created ravines, culminates with the scenographic belvedere of the “Terrace of Infinity”, where opens a wonderful scenario of the Gulf of Salerno and overlooking the near coastal resorts.

Other destinations during your Tour of Amalfi Coast

In Ravello we suggest you include as destinations of the tour: the Coral Museum, founded in 1986 and which collects coral artifacts, cameos, carved mother of pearl and seashells, from the Roman times to the last century; the Duomo (9th century), whose bronze door, made in 1179 in Costantinople and “brought to destination by sea” like those of Amalfi Cathedral, Atrani S. Salvatore and Salerno Cathedral, is divided into 54 panels representing Saints, Accounts of the Passion, lions and griffins; and the Church of Saint Mary a Gradillo (11th century), a little basilica-shaped church with three apses.

After a short stop in Positano you can go back to the airport or decide to spend the night in a hotel to complete your visit in Campania during the following day. Other tours that can be combined with the Amalfi coast tours from Rome are the daily tour in Positano and the tour of Sorrento.
